Hypnosis was proven the most successful method of quitting smoking.
One of the largest studies conducted from methods of quitting smoking proved Hypnosis to be the most successful technique. Hypnosis beat out acupuncture, medication, nicotine gum, smoker aversion techniques, smoking clinics, educational programs, Physician intervention and Advice and group withdrawal clinics.
In Total, 15 different methods to quit smoking were compared in an exhaustive and intensive study that drew from a larger pool of scientific studies (633 worldwide. The Journal of applied Psychology published this study in 1992
This study was conducted by the University of Iowa and performed by Choalingham Viswesvaran and Frank L. Schmidt. They compared against 633 scientific smoking studies and the success rates achieved with the 15 different methods readily available to quit smoking. 71,806 smokers were included in this enormous study, making it one of the largest studies ever conducted.
Using meta-analysis techniques (Hunter and Schmidt, 1990) they calculated each method and the average success rate of expected.
Hypnosis had the highest success rate of the methods studied.
Of all the programs studied, hypnosis had an average success rate of 36%, with some hypnosis programs scoring as high as 60%. Compare this to the average success rate for all other methods, just 25%. In fact, the average success rate for hypnosis was twice as high as the average success rate for programs using medication (18%) and more than twice as high as the average success rate for nicotine chewing gum (16%).
When compared Hypnosis had the highest average success rate of 36%, although some Hypnosis programs scored as high as 60%. Compared with the overall average success rate for all the other methods (25%), Hypnosis was far superior. Also, Hypnosis was more than twice as effective as the average success rates of programs utilizing medications (18%), and more than twice successful as the average nicotine chewing gum success rate (16%).
Also it is important to mention that success rates varied with different programs which included Hypnosis. Of the 48 programs used (including Hypnosis), involving 6020 smokers, the average median success rate was 36%. Ten percent of the Hypnosis programs used had success rates greater than 60%
This meta-analytic comparison was published in the Journal of Applied Psychology, 1992, Volume 77, Number 4, pages 554 through 561. The Journal of Applied Psychology is published by the American Psychological Association, America's main professional association of psychologists.

Q: What is your success rate?
Hypnosis for cessation of smoking is one of the least complicated and easiest issues to work through while under hypnosis. While about 80% of folks can quit with one session, the 2 session reinforcement package is usually recommended. A good portion of our clients that come to see us for Smoking Cessation are referrals from existing clients we have already helped with smoking. To see our success rate click here
Q: How does the “Stop Smoking Now” program work?
Hypnosis for smoking is quite easy when you break it down. While a good portion of clients can stop smoking with one session, we do recommend the 3 session package for reinforcement to clear out any obstacle remaining that may drive you back to cigarettes. Valleywides “Stop Smoking Now” Program will break down your smoking sessions like this:
Session One:
We conduct and in depth interview of your smoking history and concentrate on:
• What you started Smoking
• What emotional attachments you have to smoking
• What triggers motivate you to smoke
• Your thought process on why you smoke and what will make you not smoke
During your first session you will start the process of understanding exactly why you smoke, discovering the real reasons why you want to quit, and adding positive suggestion to work through and deal with this habit.
Session Two:
Although 50-75% of people will quit after their first session, there may have been some trigger event such as going out to a bar that caused you to smoke again. These triggers and events will be dealt with during this session. Others may find that they cut down smoking significantly but still have a desire to smoke during coffee breaks, or when stress fleer's up. We will work through how to deal with stress, triggers, and disassociate you from known patterns and circumstances that allow you to continue smoking. After the second session you will completely understand how the subconscious works with desire, and consciously allow yourself to modify any behaviors that would normally get you to smoke.
Session Three:
The third session is made (if needed) to reinforce the previous two session, and compound the suggestion that you are a non smoker for life and will stay that way. Any leftover trigger events are dealt with, and compounded, but at this point you should be on your way to a smoke free lifetime.
Although most people will quit in one or two session, everyone is different and may require a different amount of time to allow themselves to quit. Hypnosis is highly effective for smoking so don't be to hard on yourself, and just allow yourself to visualize becoming a non smoker today.
Q: Why is the “Stop Smoking Now: Program so effective
We use a very personalized approach that is unique to each client and is not scripted. Through experience I have noticed that people start, and stay smoking for one reason (such as friends) and stay a smoker for completely other reason personal to them (stress, outlet).
I stat with an intensive history of your smoking, what makes you smoke, what triggers your smoking, and finally why you want to become a non smoker. We use a combination of guided imagery, positive suggestions, emotional queues, awareness techniques, trigger replacement, and life mapping to allow you to focus on the new smoke free you.
Our program is so efficient because we will not take in anyone who is not ready to become a non smoker. You will know when you are ready to be a non smoker, when the thought of becoming a non smoker outweighs the desire or satisfaction of quitting your ready.
Q: How does Hypnosis compare to other programs
You probably already know the answer to this question from the above scientific study and from your own and loved ones experiences. Most people do not come to Hypnotherapist first, and usually try to quit smoking in this order.
Cold Turkey or cutting down
Patch
Alternatives such as medicine or advice
Counseling or Hypnotherapy
The reason these other options fail is they focus on medicinal interaction to quit smoking, or the power of your conscious mind, when in fact it is your subconscious that controls habits, emotions and desires.
Q: Will I gain Weight when I quit smoking?
Not if you don't want to. The reason most people associate weight gain with smoking is because your subconscious searches for new outlets to replace old habits such as eating. If you normally smoked for comfort during stress, your subconscious mind will automatically try to find something that can “fill the gap” such as overeating. With Hypnosis we train your conscious and subconscious mind to replace smoking with positive habits such as exercise, eating healthy, or drinking water.
