Overcoming Anxiety with Hypnosis | Phoenix Arizona

Almost 10% of the people in America suffer from an Anxiety disorder. The condition can become chronic and based on irrational fear. If these disorders are left untreated they may become more intense and therefore disrupt the persons everyday life.

There are currently Four Basic Types of Anxiety Disorders:

1) Panic Disorder

2) Generalized Anxiety Disorder

3) Post-traumatic Stress Disorder

3) Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

A) Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD):

People with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) go through the day filled with exaggerated worry and tension, even though there is little or nothing to provoke it. They anticipate disaster and are overly concerned about health issues, money, family problems, or difficulties at work. Sometimes just the thought of getting through the day produces anxiety.

GAD affects about 6.8 million adult Americans 1 and about twice as many women as men. The disorder comes on gradually and can begin across the life cycle, though the risk is highest between childhood and middle age. It is diagnosed when someone spends at least 6 months worrying excessively about a number of everyday problems. There is evidence that genes play a modest role in GAD.

B) Panic Disorder:

Panic disorder is a real illness that can be successfully treated. It is characterized by sudden attacks of terror, usually accompanied by a pounding heart, sweatiness, weakness, faintness, or dizziness. During these attacks, people with panic disorder may flush or feel chilled; their hands may tingle or feel numb; and they may experience nausea, chest pain, or smothering sensations. Panic attacks usually produce a sense of unreality, a fear of impending doom, or a fear of losing control.

C) Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder:

People with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) have persistent, upsetting thoughts (obsessions) and use rituals (compulsions) to control the anxiety these thoughts produce. Most of the time, the rituals end up controlling them.

For example, if people are obsessed with germs or dirt, they may develop a compulsion to wash their hands over and over again. If they develop an obsession with intruders, they may lock and relock their doors many times before going to bed. Being afraid of social embarrassment may prompt people with OCD to comb their hair compulsively in front of a mirror-sometimes they get “caught” in the mirror and can't move away from it. Performing such rituals is not pleasurable. At best, it produces temporary relief from the anxiety created by obsessive thoughts.

D) Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder:

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) develops after a terrifying ordeal that involved physical harm or the threat of physical harm. The person who develops PTSD may have been the one who was harmed, the harm may have happened to a loved one, or the person may have witnessed a harmful event that happened to loved ones or strangers.

PTSD was first brought to public attention in relation to war veterans, but it can result from a variety of traumatic incidents, such as mugging, rape, torture, being kidnapped or held captive, child abuse, car accidents, train wrecks, plane crashes, bombings, or natural disasters such as floods or earthquakes.

The Origins of Fear:

One of the most common roles of therapy is to assist people in dealing with and ending strong fears that have originated in childhood, when the reasoning ability and an understanding of the nature of reality has not been fully developed. Some fears may result from a traumatic experience as an adult, but most originate in ones childhood.

Fear is most a very common reason that people attend or seek out therapy. They may have a strong desire to finally end the irrational or rational fear that started in childhood when the reason for the fear has not been completely developed and understood. Often fears are a result of a tragic experience in your adult life, but most fears originate from childhood.

Common Fears

Fears come in many flavors including heights, animals, bridges, planes or social gatherings. There may also be a social fear of rejection in new relationships or the inability to say the right thing when in a group situation. Also fears can be performance related such as performing at work, or public speaking or even success! Fear of feelings such as impending danger, darkness or lack of light, closed spaces, open views, or death. Fear of the unknown, misunderstood or even what is understood but still feared can exist as well. Some people fear losing control, or being controlled, so fear comes in many styles and flavors.

Can fear be usefully

Fear can be beneficial by making people more cautious our investigate situations thoroughly. If a fear steps over the line and becomes irrational, or starts to impact your life it can become serious. Often a fear starts off as a simple thought such as is my door locked, and can grow in intensity to a debilitating phobia.

If a fear starts to effect someone's life so much so that it starts consuming their thought process and invading on their time it can become concerning. When a fear is easily triggered and starts consuming your life or starts affecting your overall happiness, then it is time to seek therapy. Hypnosis is an extremely useful tool because these fears can be irrational and just pop up out of seemingly nowhere. Hypnosis can replace this irrational or subconscious fear and start a process of desensitizing it.

Anxiety order typical growth process:

•  Unrealistic or irrational self talks creates a fear

•  A fearful state of general anxiety is created

•  Any thoughts that may counter the fear are pushed aside and the fearful state remains or grows.

•  Fearful of being afraid develops, which intensifies the overall fear factor and anxiety levels.

•  The person then starts avoiding or resisting situations or circumstances that created the fear in the first place.

The Hypnosis Advantage

•  Hypnosis will replace negative fearful images and thoughts with positive healing thoughts. Hypnosis also replaces irrational thoughts with fact based thoughts.

•  Hypnosis will remove the physical bodily reaction to fear and replace this with a calming concentrated feeling.

•  Will work to slow down the breathing and heartrate which can trigger an anxiety state or attack.

•  Generates deep relaxation

•  Hypnosis loosens the muscles and releases tension in the neck, shoulders and throat.

•  Helps to assist with the physical feelings of heat, cold, tingling feelings or feeling like they cannot take a breath as a weight is on their chest.

•  Allows concentration to take over the fight or flight feeling of the fear for a clear headed analytical view of the fear.

•  Creates regular natural breathing patterns that replace the short narrow breaths that can cause light headedness and hyperventilation.

What Causes Anxiety?

Anxiety is often triggered by stress in our lives. Some of us are more vulnerable to anxiety than others, but even those who become anxious easily can learn to manage it well. We can also make ourselves anxious with "negative self-talk" - a habit of always telling ourselves the worst will happen.

New technologies are enabling researchers and scientists to learn more about the biological, psychological, and social factors that influence the development of an anxiety disorder. With a better understanding of underlying causes, better treatment and even prevention measures will be possible.

The following are all believed to play a role in the occurrence of anxiety disorders:

  • heredity
  • brain chemistry
  • personality
  • life experiences

Confronting Your Fears in Hypnosis

Hypnosis will focus on the discovery of where the Anxiety and fear originated, which is often established through age regression. Once the source is discovered Hypnosis works to desensitize and replace the fear. The desensitization will allow the body to not feel the physical symptoms while the psychological aspects remove any internal conflict within the subconscious that was allowing the fear to remain. Hypnosis is extremely effective with working on eradicating irrational fears and anxiety by reprogramming the way you interpret fear and anxiety.
