-
Close your eyes relax and rid yourself of any stress, tension or Anxiety. At the beginning you may find it hard to think. You may also find repetitive thoughts keep forming. If this happens don't try and force these thoughts away. Acknowledge and observe them, and just push them to the side.
-
Recognize where there is tension in the body. Beginning with your toes and feet, and imagine the tension just falling away, or disappearing. Now imagine each body part from your toes all the way up, relaxing each body part. Visualize each part of your body becoming lighter and lighter as the tension is removed. Continue with your other body's parts such as calves, hips, thighs and so on until all of your body parts are relaxed up to your face and neck. You may want to use imagery that is comforting to you such as water or the wind blowing (I feel the wind blowing over my feet and calves calming and relaxing them).
-
Take deep breaths slowly. Upon exhaling visualize tension and stress leaving you in a cloud of smoke. When you inhale see the airs as a cleansing white or blue light that regenerates and assists.
-
Notice and appreciate that you are now completely in a relaxed state of mind. Imagine you are at the top of a flight of ten stone stairs. Picture all of the details of the environment including colors, smells and sensations. Explain to yourself that you will count each step on the way down, starting with the number 10. Visualize each number in your mind starting with ten. Imagine as you count that each number is a separate step leading toward the bottom. As each number is reached from 10 until 1 you will feel yourself let go and relax. As you step imagine you can physically feel each step under your feet. Keep counting down visualizing the steps until you hit the bottom step. As you reach the bottomimagine that you are completely happy, relaxed and tension free. You may find that rolling your eyes up will increase your state of relaxation.
-
At this point you can now start working with the issue you originally are looking to work on. You will want to speak in the present tense. Because the subconscious mind does not understand negative comments avoid saying anything like I cant wait to be relaxed an Instead, say, "I am now feeling completely calm and relaxed." Examples of positive statements "I am intelligent and happy," "I am positive and successful," and, if should you have pain, "My back is loose and comfortable." (see warning on PAIN)
-
When you are satisfied with your progress tell yourself I will now count up from 1-10, you will start to slowly rise up to consciousness while staying calm and relaxed. Proceed to count upwards at this point feeling that you are returning to consciousness.

Once you have ascended open your eyes and allow a few moments to come back to full consciousness.

People often find that imagining themselves in a peaceful or calming environment assists with achieving relaxation. For instance you may imagine yourself at the beach, listening to the sound as the wave rolls against your feet. Alternatively, you could imagine a leisurely stroll through flowers while a soft breeze blows through your hair.
-
If you have trouble sleeping, use the ten counts to walk down the staircase while imagine yourself relaxing. This will assist in allowing your mind to wind down for a comfortable night's sleep.
-
Relaxation is the key to a positive and successful session. Remind yourself that you will allow yourself to completely relax, and you will.
-
Gauging your own level of Hypnosis is impossible. Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state that is easily achieved. If you imagine and trust that you have reached the state of Hypnosis, you probably have.
-
If you believe you are having a tough time hypnotizing yourself, you may use sound therapy. Quite a few programs are easily downloaded that can alter your conscious brain state to one of Hypnosis.
-
Self Hypnosis may not be sufficient to address all of the issues you desire change with. If something doesn't work it does not mean you weren't in Hypnosis, you may just require additional assistance with a professional.
-
Rise slowly and allow yourself time. Rising to quickly could allow your blood pressure to drop, which may make you dizzy. (This has nothing to do with Hypnosis, it happens from laying down for awhile.)
-
As a reminder it is always best to speak with a physician or professional before trying to solve any medical related issues. And as always self-hypnosis is not a replacement for your physician's advice.
-
It is possible that through self hypnosis you feel as though you no longer need medication; never stop taking medication without first speaking to your doctor.
-
Never try and uncover old or repressed memories; this can be extremely tricky and can have many negative consequences, and is best left up to a professional.
-
Do not use commands that completely remove pain, instead say something like “I feel the pain moving away until the condition becomes better or worsens. Pain is a natural response and systemic red alarm that there is something wrong with your system. If you remove this pain you can permanently injure yourself without even knowing it.
